![]() Unfortunately, this remake is truly a mixed bag, and unlike the original, which at least had a solid gameplay foundation beneath its magic, this one truly NEEDS the magic factor to keep you going. But somehow, the Disney charm that both children AND full-grown adults can't ever seem to get enough of (I go to Disney World every year with my wife and daughter for a reason) has given a mildly competent and pretty nice to look at title in 1990's COI a much more cherished and special place in our collective gaming hearts than it really had any right to have. While the original Castle of Illusion was a solid and fun platformer, it was hardly groundbreaking, and if any other character other than Mickey Mouse had been the protagonist, it probably would've been largely forgotten at the very least, it wouldn't have garnered a 2013-style facelift. ![]() ![]() With that out of the way, let's face it.as soon as we see "Disney" associated with ANYTHING, we already start feeling the almost-mandatory magic and nostalgia. This is not Rayman Legends, nor is it trying to be, but for some reason, some reviewers insist on trying to place it in the same class. To that, I say 1) this is a $15 downloadable title, and 2) as it sticks very close to the script and settings of its 1990 forebear, it's SUPPOSED to be on the shorter side.
